Wow, another month come and gone. Where does the time go? That was rhetorical, by the way. Now to fill in my faithful readers about the last two months.

SR is now ours, but her residence did not start out in an auspicious manner. The Sunday after her adoption was finalized, The Better Half™ was leaving for 8 AM Mass with little SR and Mike. I was dead to the world, as Sunday is my day to sleep in. I hear Mike come tearing into the house yelling, “JT! Pat! Momma needs help!” I was out of bed like a scalded cat and tearing out the back door where I found The Better Half™ lying on her back holding SR to her chest. She had slipped on the ice on the ramp we have on the back porch. After all was said and done, and after she visited the doctor the next day because her foot was hurting her so bad, the doc said that she had probably cracked a bone in her foot, and he would call after the radiologist had read the X-ray. The doc never called, so we believe her foot wasn’t broken; however, she spent a week in a wheelchair we borrowed from her parents. I of course took a week off from work, which threw me behind like you wouldn’t believe. Come to think of it, that’s where most of my time has gone, trying to keep things together while The Better Half™ recuperates. She says she’s better now, but I can still find her gimping around now and then.

What else? Now I see why people update these things so often; my memory is not what it used to be. Come to think of it, neither is anything else what it used to be. I guess that’s what happens as you near your 49th birthday.

Oh yeah, the Knights of Columbus has been keeping me busy the last couple of months. The less said about that the better, merely because thinking about it jacks my blood pressure through the roof.

We placed KC at a home for severely handicapped children this morning. As a matter of fact, it’s the same place where we placed another one of our foster children (DJ) about three years ago. Now we’re down to only having four kids at home. Seems kinda quiet to be perfectly honest.
The Better Half™ called me before I left work today to tell me that she had been in an auto accident. Some fool rearended her at a stop light, with all the kids in the van. (Flashback: We bought a 15-passenger van a couple of months ago in order to fit everyone into a vehicle at the same time. After taking out the back seat, there’s room for two wheelchairs and anything else we need for a trip. Not too shabby, although it takes a king’s ransom to gas the thing up.) No one was hurt, thankfully, but now the back of the van has a nice dent in the door and the bumper is folded under on the left hand side. Some days it ain’t worth chewing through the straps to get out of bed. All for now!

Comments:
Chris, thanks for commenting. It's always good to find people who actually stop by and read this stuff. Hope you and your wife continue to find joy with your little one for many years to come.

Red Falcon and the Bugg come by here once in a while to see what I've been up to, so I can't say I really "know" him, but I agree with you, he is a fine American. I don't stop by his place as often as I could, but with four kids at home and a full-time job, even finding time to blog is tough sometimes.

Come back again, Chris, you're always welcome.

i did a google search for cromagnon. your blog comes up first. rad.

You're connected to a church? Oh my God - I got lead her from romseyredheads blog where you use the term "wanking poofter". http://www.haloscan.com/comments/wilbarber/109948252366202485/

What does that mean? Is it Christian?

Red Falcon and Bugg, thank you for your kind comments, although I really don't believe I rate them. I'm just your average guy trying to make it in the world while raising a family.

Anonymous, I am a practicing Roman Catholic. I am also a big Monty Python fan (are those two items mutually exclusive?). "Wanking poofter" is not a religious phrase that I am aware of, it's a combination of two British terms. A wanker is someone who (ahem) engages in self-stimulation (if you have to ask, you don't want to know). A poofter, as near as I can find out, is a foolish person. Together they just sounded kinda neat in an offputting, British way. YMMV.

Except that you called a woman a wanker. Doesn't sound too Christian to me.

Anonymous, I can't tell if you're legitimate or a troll, but I'm going to reply as if you are really curious. Even Jesus lost his cool in the Temple when he ran the moneychangers out with a whip. Calling someone a "wanker" doesn't qualify you as un-Christian, it qualifies you as a human being, complete with all the faults and foibles appurtenant thereto. Being Christian doesn't mean you're perfect, it means you're trying to live your life along the precepts set out by Jesus Christ. There was only one perfect person on Earth, and you see what the human race tried to do to him.
